UL, LLC Laboratory Engineer (EMC - Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) in Basingstoke, United Kingdom

We are seeking a Laboratory Engineer, ideally with some exposure to EMC testing or similar (cellular, WLAN, Bluetooth) and who has some testing experience within electronic products. You will have recently graduated, or gained vocational engineering, electronics or science-based qualifications and has a keen interest in electronics and technology in general. UL Solutions will provide appropriate training and development to support the successful applicant.

You will join a great team who operate in a supportive and friendly environment and you'll be involved in testing and certifying some of the latest innovations in technology.

Applicants are required to have some level of engineering/science based qualifications and must have a willingness to learn. The role will also include the generation/creation of technical reports, therefore good verbal and written communication skills and an attention to detail are essential.

The individual must be able to work to deadlines, in order to meet customer requirements.

A genuine interest in technology is central and although not a requirement, an understanding of IT equipment, radio technologies, e.g. cellular, WLAN, Bluetooth and test equipment, including spectrum analysers and signal generators is highly desirable.

Key tasks you will be involved in:

  • Undertaking testing on a wide range of products requiring certification.

  • General laboratory related maintenance / upkeep.

  • Accurately documenting test findings, which appropriately detail all aspects of testing performed.

  • To update the company work systems, with details of testing and overall job status, for each item of work for which the individual is responsible

  • Welcome, assist and support customers when they attend site and to confidently communicate results and/or project progress to the customer, either in person, via email or phone.

  • To meet customer delivery requirements in all respects.

Ideally you'll know EMC and have exposure to testing consumer electronics, but if not, we want someone who is passionate about technology and engineering, with the right level of aptitude to succeed within a world-renowned safety science organisation.

Here's what we'd like:

  • University Degree in Engineering (in related field of work) or equivalent work experience.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.

  • The ability to work on multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional levels of customer service.

  • You will be able to partner with multiple teams at UL Solutions, including Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel, working collaboratively to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.

  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and possess a creative desire to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must
