GCI Communication Corp Engineer IV, Wireless Network RF in Anchorage, Alaska

WORK LOCATION: Anchorage, Alaska (Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the U.S.)

JOB DUTIES: Design, plan, analyze, and implement wireless radiofrequency (RF) networks. Apply engineering expertise re: wireless technologies/specifications to design and optimize wireless 5G, LTE, UMTS/HSPA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi and CDMA/EVDO radio network coverage, performance and capacity, and to commission and integrate wireless sites with optimal performance and capacity. Support internal business units engaged in site development, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations. Perform cell site dimensioning and configuration evaluation based on vendor offerings. Participate in developing internal processes used for radio network design, ensuring compliance with regulatory and zoning requirements. Troubleshoot site network problems, overseeing/managing capacity requirements and identifying causes of RF interference. Provide input to management regarding tactical and strategic issues. Lead teams of engineers on specific projects and mentor junior engineers and technicians. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the U.S.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications Engineering or related field.

  • 5 years of progressive, post baccalaureate experience in any RF Engineering-related occupation, including at least 2 years of experience in each of the following:

  • RF wireless technologies (5G, LTE, and/or UMTS);

  • Troubleshooting, optimizing, and designing wireless communications sites;

  • Ericsson UMTS and LTE platforms, product lines, and their associated 3GPP specifications;

  • RF optimal design concepts, including cell site selection, optimal planning of frequencies, PSCs, PCI, RRSP, and BCCH;

  • RF propagation principles, cellular theory, and antenna theory;

  • RF propagation/prediction tools, including Atoll, Mentum Planet, and MapInfo;

  • Test validation tools, including ASCOM TEMS Discovery and TEMS Investigation; and

  • Providing technical leadership, oversight, and mentoring to other engineers.

Physical Requirements: Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Clarity of vision to see near, mid-range, and color. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions: Standard office environment. Qualified candidate must be able to occasionally work in cramped spaces and at heights, primarily inside and outside of remote company and customer facilities. Ability to work different/schedules as required by business/customer needs, work extended hours without notice in order to resolve service impacting issues. Ability to tolerate temperature and weather extremes (fumes and odors, dust, low light conditions, intermittent weather).

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. You will be requested to provide an emergency after hours contact numbers.
