Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, FirstEnergy includes one of the nation's largest investor-owned electric systems, more than 24,000 miles of transmission lines that connect the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, and a regulated generating fleet with a total capacity of more than 3,500 megawatts Responsibilities include: System modeling of the transmission and sub-transmission Lines, system interconnections, transmission and sub-transmission substations and transformers to ensure system accuracy, results, and reliable operation. Review transmission lines and substation drawings to validate accuracy and coordinate with other business units to ensure that system matches the field conditions. Modeling of facility ratings of equipment such as lines and transformers and modeling aspects of power flow models. Performing transmission modeling activities with the operating companies, other utilities, nonutility generation, the Regional Transmission Organization, and Reliability Councils. Discussions and resolutions to modeling discrepancies, questions, and compliance concerns. Actively participate on industry working groups and forums to ensure the FirstEnergy is viewed as an engaged leader in transmission activities. Continually seek opportunities to increase internal and external customer satisfaction and broaden/deepen relationships with neighboring companies, PJM, RFC, and NERC. Supporting FE storm restoration processes including performing assigned field storm roles during significant system disturbances. Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment that values an open exchange of ideas to promote innovation An employee hired at the Engineer III or IV levels will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Engineer III and IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those Listed above. Qualifications include: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. At least 3 (three)years of engineering experience is required. Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory AcSELerator QuickSet (SEL-5030), Siemens PSS CAPE, Doble PowerBase and Sun-Net iTOA software considered a plus. Familiarity with either or all applications is preferred - GE/Alstom Energy Management System (EMS), Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF), Transmission Line Loadability (TLL), Primavera Unifier, QIikView/PowerBi. Working knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, knowledge of FileNet, SAP, and Cascade preferred. Demonstrate familiarity with PJM, RFC and NERC practices, procedures and requirements. Ability to read and effectively interpret electrical single lines, three lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, functional diagrams, etc. from a variety of sources. Demonstrated abilities of effective analytical and reasoning capabilities, refined oral and written communication skills, including ability to effectively structure and confidently present information to peers and leadership.
