Position

Time Resolved Terminal Ballistics Researcher

  • Location: Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland

  • Security Clearance: Active Secret Clearance or Eligible to Obtain - U.S. citizenship required

  • Salary: $80,000 - $105,000 Depending on Experience and Education

  • Travel: 10%

    Position Summary

    SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Time Resolved Terminal Ballistics Researcher to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities of Time Resolved Terminal Ballistics Researcher

  • Conduct and oversee experimental tests and analysis of data for terminal ballistics phenomena.

  • Experience with ultra high speed instrumentation including flash X-ray, photonic Doppler velocimetry and imaging is a must for this position.

  • Manage databases, data organization systems, and information exchange practices related to terminal ballistic experimental tests and analyses.

  • Analyze and summarize terminal ballistic data including velocimetry, flash X-ray radiographs, high speed optical images, phase contrast imaging or X-ray diffraction.

  • Apply theories, principles, and methods related to solid/structural mechanics, impact physics, and material behavior at high strain rates to research terminal ballistics phenomena.

  • Setup, maintain, calibrate, and activate electrical and mechanical subassemblies.

  • Perform computational studies using or developing advanced computational tools associated with shock physics and material failure using hydro codes.

  • Conceptualize launch system/mechanisms for novel weapons systems.

  • Support the physical maintenance and upkeep of Government laboratory facilities and equipment used for terminal ballistic experiments.

  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) associated with the relevant experiments.

  • Prepare and present presentations and written documents summarizing efforts

    Minimum Qualifications of Time Resolved Terminal Ballistics Researcher Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1-2 years of relevant experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; if you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.

    Primary Knowledge & Skills Desired

  • Experience with ultra high speed instrumentation including flash X-ray, photonic doppler velocimetry and imaging.

  • Knowledge in the use of three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD), CAD best management practices, CAD tools, SolidWorks, ProEngineer, and/or other design software.

  • Experience conducting data analysis with MatLab, MathCad, LabVIEW, Python or similar analysis tools.
